Why You Need P.I.E.

Apple, peach and pumpkin pie are all my favorite pies, but this is not about the pie you eat!

As an immigrant to Canada, my parents always told me “Work hard and your work will get you noticed and promoted.” My parents’ advice was right for the first few years in my career, it worked, and I moved up quickly. However, no one told me that as you get more senior in your career, working hard just isn’t enough. Applying the same formula and believing that my hard work would speak for itself cost me my job, my confidence, and my worth.

Years later, I discovered a framework that put the career trauma I experienced in perspective. What a light bulb moment it was for me to learn that our forward trajectory in our careers is based on three simple elements comprised of P.I.E. I was so focused on one element of P.I.E., I had not invested in the other two elements. This talk is for those leaders who are also failing into the same trap and want to change their influence and trajectory.

This 45-minute virtual presentation helps women and people of under-represented groups break through the glass ceiling and experience greater job satisfaction.

“From the moment we connected I knew Salima was my top pick supported by my leadership team as a keynote speaker for our Global International Women's Day event. At Kraft Heinz, we are on a mission to increase Women in Leadership roles to 50% by 2025 and increase gender parity to 50% by 2025. With these aspirations and this work being at the forefront of Salima’s everyday life, I knew she would have a powerful story to tell to our employees at Kraft Heinz. Her P.I.E. framework is one that we can all resonate with, you don’t have to work hard to advance but rather have an opportunity to be at the table and allow your voice to be heard with supporting allies and sponsors. Thank you Salima for sharing your expertise by educating and inspiring over 600 of our employees on IWD. We are stronger because of you!”
