PRESENCE

This month's stories are about building Presence. Presence is not some innate quality that you either have or do not. It is a set of learned behaviors that enable you to command attention. And when you are fully present, it inspires others. Here are some tips and stories to help you develop your personal and authentic presence!

“I taught myself confidence. When I’d walk into a room and feel scared to death, I’d tell myself, ‘I’m not afraid of anybody.’ And people believed me.” —Priyanka Chopra Jonas, actress and producer

Salima speaks about Executive Presence for Women of Color.

Vanessa Van Edwards On How To Be Engaging On Video, Email, And Online
As we get into our "new normal," virtual meetings and communication is becoming more and more a part of our lives. BUT we were trained on how to communicate to people, not to faces on Zoom! Go deeper on virtual presence with expert Vanessa Van Edwards, bestselling author of Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People and founder of ScienceofPeople.com. Vanessa will give you a roadmap to powerful digital people skills because virtual communication requires different interpersonal skills than in-person.

INSPIRATION

Presence is one of the main topics that I worked on with one of my clients. Here's one quote from A Leader Unleashed: An inspiring story how someone built their Presence!

"Salima's coaching helped to assist my transformation from academic studies to Corporate America seamlessly. Salima's guidance set the framework of the foundation needed to achieve my career goals. Skill development, the functionality of our brain's mental models, public speaking, and releasing the armor were essential in our sessions, as I embraced the challenge of showing up as my authentic self. Salima's support helped me to find my voice, take the risk on unfamiliar projects, and to recreate my viewpoint of shame. As a young professional who faced imposter syndrome, I would recommend Salima to aid in your exploration of being a more all-embracing professional and personal you. Thank you, Salima!"

ANNOUNCEMENT

I am incredibly proud to be accepted into the Amex Blueprint program powered by the DMZ! The program includes mentorship and a grant. I actually cried when I received the news. On one of my first zoom calls for the program, I experienced something for the first time - a virtual room with just a BIPOC audience - a very cool moment. I am so excited that Amex has chosen Unleash Forward Inc. to support. And thank you Fred VanVleet for teaming up with Amex to spread the word about this program and BIPOC businesses!
