Allyship is Leadership
Closing the gap between intention and action
Five years ago, we didn't have the word 'allyship.' Salima has learned through experience and through coaching, that women, especially women of color, NEED allies in the workplace. The voices she heard at the leadership table were full of bias, and as a woman of color many of them came towards her. She experienced the glass ceiling and all of the concepts that kept it in place. There was no room for authentic leadership.
Allyship allows women and people from underrepresented groups to feel heard and inspires them to be their authentic selves, which creates more productivity and paves the way to greater opportunities.
Did you know that while the majority of employees see themselves as allies, research shows relatively few are taking basic allyship actions? One reason for this is that being an ally involves taking risks. It also means moving from being a passive to an active bystander.
This is why Salima created Allyship is Leadership. It’s designed to provide your company with actionable steps to making your workplace more inclusive for every member, no matter their status.
Allyship is not an initiative, it's a reflection of your organization's leadership.
Allyship actions are often less risky than anticipated. In fact, stepping up can demonstrate your leadership and credibility. #BreakingTheBias can actually open the door for conversations about these issues, whereas staying silent means that the problems will not be addressed. Importantly, speaking up often gives you authority and credibility as a leader because you are seen as being willing to take a stand for others. Being an ally is central to being a leader. Allyship is Leadership helps you understand what allyship is, the impact it can have, and learn how to overcome the fears so that you can step into your leadership and show up as an ally.
This program is for everyone, regardless of your role, level, or identity. You’ll learn how to show up in both private and public ways for your coworkers with traditionally marginalized identities. Learn specific allyship actions you can take based on your positional power—and brainstorm how to apply them at your workplace.
If you're ready to bring Allyship is Leadership to your organization, let's talk.
